Listen up.
I enjoy listening to music. As do you.
Below are brief summaries on what I’ve been listening to and calling out those that I find worthy of a second listen. You’ll find links to the full album and occasionally to a curated playlist of select tracks.
Here, I am focused on those albums that, on second listen, retain the sense of discovery and magic that make me want to hear them again. And again.
I hope you enjoy. Let me know what you think via the contact link. And stay in The Sweet Spot.
Mojo Mark
Ting Mong | Dengue Fever
At first you can’t figure out what you’re listening to…. The singer is singing in Cambodian. But ultimately, it’s a fun listen.
Cover Me Mellow: Neil Young
A curated playlist of Neil Young compositions as interpreted by other artists.
Careful! | Deeper
Guitars; production; lyrics; change ups; left turns. More guitars. And then it gets better.
GUTS | Olivia Rodrigo
High expectations for Olivia Rodrigo’s follow up album to 2021’s SOUR. Expectations met.
Rumours Live | Fleetwood Mac
Recorded live at The Forum in Los Angeles on August 29, 1977, the track list reads like a “Greatest Hits” off of 1975’s Fleetwood Mac and 1977’s Rumours.
We Are the Children of the Setting Sun | Compiled by Paul Hillery
Various Artists. Compiled by DJ and vinyl hunter Paul Hillery.
The After Party EP | Taylah Carroll
Nice follow up to her 2022 release, Have A Party On Me, which merits an Honorable Mention of its own.
New Growth | Eagle Eye Jones
I’ve been undecided on this Australian quintet’s debut album since it was released in June. Attracted to it on one listen, frustrated on the next, I’ve been revisiting this album repeatedly.
Sixto Rodriquez RIP
RIP. July 10, 1942 - Aug. 8, 2023. The Academy Award winning documentary, Searching for Sugarman, is better than the album, Cold Fact. But do listen to the album.
Strays II (Act 1: Topanga Canyon) | Margo Price
Is she still tripping? Hard to tell from just this 3-song EP. But the music sounds great!
Brothers And Sisters | The Allman Brothers Band
The album that sealed the future of Southern Rock. Classic.
Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars | David Bowie
Check out the 2023 remaster of this classic. Bowie and the band are in great form, including some spectacular contributions from guest Jeff Beck.
Excuse Me While I Vanish | William The Conqueror
A Covid-19 influenced album. Grows on you with repeated listens.
A Salute to the Horn Section
A tribute to the contributions of the horn section to some of our favorite tracks.
